We’ve come a long way.
If you’ve been following, you know by now that we’re talking a very different type of leader than you’ve most probably been conditioned a leader to be.
Nothing fails today like the success of yesterday.
Countless individuals believe leadership to be inspiration, vision, techniques and skills alone.
Many blend leadership skills into management and team performance.
They’re not the same thing.
While these strategies are important to the leader, the authentic leader knows that these skills are not the essence of leadership.
Not even close.
In today’s Mach 10 disruptive world we need a new kind of leader than we’ve had in the past.
We need a leader that leads from the center, with heart and feeling and emotional intelligence.
We need leaders who look at the entire organization as an organism. Realizing that everything affects everything, and nothing goes without consequence.
The traditional idea of organizational performance misses the point.
Organizations don’t perform. People perform. An organization
is an organism; and the authentic leader leads accordingly.
The human soul is the higher-driven objective of the entire human species. We’re ALL hardwired for art, beauty, grace, style and contribution.
We are not hardwired for ROI.
Not in a financial sense anyway.
That’s socialized mind and conditioning.
Rather than “return on investment” we should be looking for Return on Impact and Return on Influence.
We need a new type of leader that leads from the center,
with heart and feeling and emotional intelligence.
A leader who brings art, and beauty, heart,
soul and value to the world versus just traditional ROI.
When Apple created its first computer, Jobs came to observe the result of hours of tedious work and labor by his team.
He took one look at the motherboard and stated, “We can’t use that. We can do better.”
One of his team members exhausted and frustrated responded, “But Steve no one will ever see it, they’ll never know.”
Jobs replied, “WE will know. Start again.”
Somewhat disgruntled and frustrated, his team started over.
Months later Jobs was called in to view the new iteration. His team sat on pins and needles.
When he looked at the new result a smile came over his face.
“Beautiful.” He stated. “Now I want each of you to sign it.”
Someone asked, “Why?”
Jobs replied, “Because that’s what artists do. They sign their work.”
All true leaders and entrepreneurs are artists.
They bring their creativity, art, beauty, heart, and love to the world.
Are you bringing love, heart and beauty to your work?
Or are you focused on money, mechanisms, KPI’s systems and strategies alone?
Your work should be your love made manifest in the world.
Your work is your love made manifest in the world.
Your quality of life as well as your quality of leadership is determined by how you honestly answer those questions.
